Extreme limits (al punto da)

Expressing Extreme Limits: "Al punto da"

When someone's actions or feelings reach an extreme limit, you can express the consequence using the phrase al punto da (to the point of).

If the person doing the action remains the same, simply follow al punto da with an infinitive verb. It acts as an implicit consecutive clause, showing the direct, extreme result of an intense behavior.

That fan worships his idol to the point of crying every day.
Quel fan venera il suo idolo al punto da piangere ogni giorno.
The fans want to camp out behind the barricade to the point of not sleeping.
I fan vogliono accamparsi dietro la transenna al punto da non dormire.
Fanaticism creates problems, to the point of ruining what we love.
Il fanatismo crea problemi, al punto da rovinare ciò che amiamo.

Adding Emphasis: "A tal punto da"

To add even more emphasis to the statement, you can use a tal punto da (to such a point that / to such an extent that). The grammar remains exactly the same: use it with an infinitive to highlight the extreme lengths to which people—like obsessive fans—will go.

The girl is obsessed to the point of tailing the singer.
La ragazza è ossessionata a tal punto da pedinare il cantante.
They want to see the idol to the point of losing all their money.
Vogliono vedere l'idolo a tal punto da perdere tutti i soldi.
