Report cards, grades, and lo scolaro arrived in the last lesson. Now walk through the school door:

Ask about someone's favorite subject with quale:

Il maestro, la maestra
At primary school the teacher is il maestro or la maestra — a warmer word than the generic l'insegnante, and reserved for young pupils (university has il professore). What do they do all day? They correggere — correct:
| The teacher corrects the homework. | Il maestro corregge i compiti. |
The school ladder
Italian school starts before first grade: small children go to l'asilo, the nursery school, and then move on to la scuola elementare — primary school.
