Questions & Answers about Þeir starfa ekki heima núna.
Why does the verb starfa look exactly like its infinitive (dictionary) form here?
For Group 1 verbs, the plural forms for við (we) and þeir, þær, or þau (they) are identical to the infinitive. Because the subject is þeir (they), the verb stays starfa. If the subject were singular, like hann (he), it would have the -ar ending and become starfar.
Would I use þeir for any group of people working?
Why does ekki come after the verb instead of before it like in English?
In standard Icelandic sentences, the main verb is usually the second piece of information. The negation word ekki (not) typically follows directly after it. Because of this rule, the sentence literally reads as "They work not at home now."
Why is the word for "at home" heima instead of just heim?
