Questions & Answers about Panik artıyor.
Why is there no article before panik?
Turkish does not have indefinite articles like “a” or “an.” A bare noun can mean either definite or indefinite in general statements. Here panik simply means “(some) panic.”
What role does panik play in the sentence?
panik is the subject. In Turkish, the subject appears in the nominative without any ending, so you see just panik.
What does artıyor mean and how is it formed?
artıyor is the third‐person singular present continuous form of the verb artmak (“to increase”). You take the stem art-, add the present continuous suffix -(i)yor (here vowel-harmonized to -ıyor), and no extra personal suffix for “he/she/it.”
Why don’t we say “it increases,” i.e. include o or o artıyor?
In Turkish the subject pronoun (o for “he/she/it”) is usually dropped because the verb ending -ıyor already tells you it’s third person singular. Hence panik artıyor naturally implies “panic is increasing.”
How would I say “My panic is increasing”?
Attach the first‐person singular possessive to panik: Panikim artıyor.
Breakdown: panik-im (“my panic”) + artıyor (“is increasing”).
Can panik be plural, e.g. panikler artıyor?
Generally no. panik is an abstract, uncountable noun in Turkish, so you don’t make it plural in this context. You’d still say panik artıyor.
How would you intensify it, like “panic is increasing rapidly”?
Add an adverb: Panik hızla artıyor. or Panik çabucak artıyor.
Where is the stress in panik artıyor?
In Turkish the main stress typically falls on the last syllable of the word or phrase. So you’d say pa-nik ar-TIR-yor, with the strongest stress on -yor.
Can I use artıyor for any intransitive “increase” verb?
Yes, artmak is intransitive (“something increases on its own”). For transitive “to increase something,” you’d use artırmak (e.g. fiyatı artırmak “to increase the price”).
Is panik artıyor used only for feelings?
No. You can use it for any situation where “panic” as a state or condition is growing (e.g. Halk arasında panik artıyor “Panic among the public is growing”).
