Why is it čekam and not something like ja čekam?
In Serbian, the subject pronoun is often omitted because the verb ending already shows the person and number.
- čekam = I am waiting / I wait
- the ending -am tells you it is 1st person singular
So Čekam poziv iz banke is perfectly natural. You can add ja only for emphasis or contrast:
- Ja čekam poziv iz banke, a on čeka mejl.
I am waiting for a call from the bank, and he is waiting for an email.
Why is poziv used here? Does it specifically mean a phone call?
