Why is assicuriamo used here, and what form is it?
Assicuriamo is the 1st person plural form of assicurare in the present indicative: noi assicuriamo = we insure.
So the sentence structure is:
- assicuriamo = we insure / we are insuring
- l'auto = the car
- oggi = today
A learner should also know that assicuriamo can sometimes sound like an exhortation, similar to let's insure, depending on context. But grammatically, it is the same form as we insure.
Why is there no word for we in the sentence?
Italian often omits subject pronouns when they are not needed, because the verb ending already shows who is doing the action.
Here:
- assicuro = I insure
- assicuri = you insure
- assicura = he/she/it insures
- assicuriamo = we insure
- assicurate = you all insure
- assicurano = they insure
Since -iamo clearly marks we, Italian usually does not need noi.
You could say Noi assicuriamo l'auto oggi, but that would usually add emphasis, like we insure the car today.
