Questions & Answers about Die Leitung entscheidet heute.

What does die Leitung mean here?

Here die Leitung is most likely the management, the leadership, or the person/body in charge.

That noun can also mean things like line, cable, pipe, or conduit in other contexts, so it is a word whose meaning depends heavily on context. In this sentence, because the verb is entscheidet (decides), the meaning management/leadership is the natural one.

Why is it die Leitung and not der or das Leitung?

Because Leitung is a feminine noun in German, so it takes the feminine article die in the nominative singular.

• die Leitung = the management / the line
• Gender in German is grammatical, so it must simply be learned with the noun.

Also, in this sentence die Leitung is the subject, so die is nominative here.

Is die Leitung singular or plural?
