    finally there is a group of weak masculine nouns, mostly describing people or animals ending in n. Watch out for those, when they come up

on a second thought... derselbe Mann might have been a better choice, since talking about people you rather specify that someone was exactly the same person, that you have seen before...

Der kleine Mann ist glücklich.
The little man is happy.
Der Mann ist im Haus.
The man is in the house.
Am Anfang der Geschichte ist der kleine Mann unglücklich.
At the beginning of the story, the little man is unhappy.
Watch out for the word order! Whenever we start the sentence with a time expression the verb moves before the subject.

Er (1) ist (2) unglücklich.

Am Anfang ist (2) er (1) unglücklich.

Ich sehe den Mann.
I see the man.
Der Mann sieht das Kind.
The man sees the child.
Der kleine Mann arbeitet wieder.
The little man works again.
Am nächsten Tag geht der kleine Mann wieder ins Café.
The following day the little man goes into the coffee shop again.
in + das = ins (direction > accusative)
Der kleine Mann ist enttäuscht.
The little man is disappointed.
Der Mann ist klein.
