The preposition binnen (binnen eines Monats)

The Preposition binnen

To say that something will happen "within" a certain time frame, use the temporal preposition binnen.

In formal and written German, binnen traditionally takes the Genitive case.

The express shipping must occur within one day.
Der Expressversand muss binnen eines Tages erfolgen.
The warehouse was completely empty within a month.
Das Lager war binnen eines Monats völlig leer.

With feminine time periods (like die Stunde or die Woche), the genitive and dative articles look identical (einer).

The courier will arrive within an hour.
Der Kurier wird binnen einer Stunde eintreffen.

binnen with the Dative Case

While the genitive is standard for singular nouns, binnen frequently takes the Dative case for plural nouns.

This is especially common when specifying a number of days or weeks without using an article or adjective. The dative -(e)n ending (e.g., Werktagen) clearly marks the plural.

The delivery took place within two working days.
Die Zustellung ist binnen zwei Werktagen erfolgt.
We take care of the return shipment within three working days.
Wir erledigen die Rücksendung binnen drei Werktagen.

Express Delivery and Opinions

Logistics and shipping use formal vocabulary, such as the verbs erfolgen (to occur) and eintreffen (to arrive), or the adverb umgehend (immediately/promptly).

The package leaves the warehouse immediately.
Das Paket verlässt das Lager umgehend.

If a service misses a deadline, you can share your feedback using the set phrase meiner Meinung nach (in my opinion).

When you start a sentence with this phrase, it takes up the entire first position. The conjugated verb must immediately follow in the second position.

In my opinion, the courier was too slow.
Meiner Meinung nach war der Kurier zu langsam.
In my opinion, the express shipping is pointless here.
Meiner Meinung nach ist der Expressversand hier sinnlos.
