### Action vs. State: Placement and Location

In English, you can "put" almost anything anywhere, and say it "is" there. German uses different verbs depending on an object's physical shape, and whether you are performing an **action** (placing it) or describing a **state** (it resting there).

Because placing an object involves movement toward a destination, it requires the **accusative** case. Once the object is resting there, it becomes a static location, which triggers the **dative** case.

### Stellen vs. Stehen (Upright Objects)

For objects that have a natural base and stand upright—like a TV, a vase, or a lamp—use **stellen** (to place upright) and **stehen** (to stand).
