### Stating Exceptions with "abgesehen von"

To state an exception—saying "apart from" or "aside from"—use the phrase **abgesehen von**. Because the preposition **von** always triggers the Dative case, the noun that follows must take a Dative article:
- Masculine and Neuter: *der* and *das* become **dem**
- Feminine: *die* becomes **der**
- Plural: *die* becomes **den** (and the noun usually adds an *-n*)

For a feminine noun like *die Vorgabe* (the specification), the article becomes *der*:
