Getting lost is frustrating, especially when an area feels endless and you wander without being able to get your bearings.
| This place is endless and we are wandering without finding the exit. | Cet endroit est interminable et nous errons sans trouver la sortie. |
Going Nowhere: ne... nulle part
To express that something is "nowhere" or that you are not going "anywhere," use the negative expression ne... nulle part.
Just like with standard negation, place ne (or n' before a vowel sound) directly before the conjugated verb, and nulle part immediately after it.
| We are wandering in the labyrinth, but this path goes nowhere. | Nous errons dans le labyrinthe, mais ce chemin ne va nulle part. |
| We are looking for the exit, but it is nowhere. | Nous cherchons la sortie, mais elle n'est nulle part. |
| It is difficult to get one's bearings here, I am going nowhere. | C'est difficile de se repérer ici, je ne vais nulle part. |
Dead Ends and Despair
Combine this structure with maze-related vocabulary like une impasse (a dead end) or se repérer (to get one's bearings) when you feel completely lost.
| It is a dead end that goes nowhere. | C'est une impasse qui ne va nulle part. |
| I am desperate, I do not recognize the place where we are. | Je suis désespéré, je ne reconnais pas l'endroit où nous sommes. |
