Extreme consequence (au point de)

When a situation is so intense that it triggers a dramatic result, use au point de (to the point of) followed by an infinitive.

He works to the point of collapsing.
Il travaille au point de s'effondrer.
Because of the heatwave, I am hot to the point of being delirious.

To Such a Point Of...

For even more emphasis, use à tel point de (to such a point of). It functions exactly like au point de and is also followed by an infinitive.

He is tired to such a point of being delirious.
The heatwave is terrible, to such a point of making people flee.

Before a Vowel

As always, the preposition de drops its e and becomes d' before a vowel or mute h.

Because of the overwork, she is sinking into exhaustion to the point of giving up.
It rains to such a point of flooding the street.
