TCF Canada's Expression orale is a 12-minute, face-to-face interview with an examiner, split into three tasks. This lesson covers the two you build on the fly: Tâche 2 and Tâche 3.
Tâche 2 is an interactive exchange, about 5 minutes 30 including roughly 2 minutes of preparation. The examiner hands you a document or scenario — a class schedule, a rental listing, a gym membership — and you gather specific information from them by asking real questions, not by delivering a monologue. The tested skill is keeping a live conversation moving: open by stating why you're inquiring, vary your question forms (est-ce que, inversion, plain interrogative words) instead of repeating the same structure, rebound on what the examiner just told you rather than firing off a memorized list, ask for clarification when an answer is unclear, and close politely once you have what you need.

Tâche 3 flips the format entirely: a spontaneous opinion monologue, about 4 minutes 30, on a societal topic drawn at random — and there is NO preparation time at all. You react on the spot: state your position, develop it through two or three points, and land a conclusion, alone, against the clock. Because you can't plan ahead, the value is in ready-made scaffolding you can drop into place instantly.

Budget your time around this asymmetry: Tâche 2's two prep minutes are the only planning you get across either task, so use any spare seconds there to also rehearse how you'll open Tâche 3 once it starts — you get no second chance. And once your Tâche 3 clock is running low, reach for a wrap-up formula immediately rather than letting the monologue trail off. No source confirms whether TCF expects vous or tu with the examiner; this lesson defaults to the polite, vous-appropriate register throughout, the safer choice for an exam interview.
