Questions & Answers about Löydettyänne amuletin keskityitte portaaliin.
How is the word löydettyänne built in this sentence?
It uses the past temporal construction. You take the passive past participle of löytää (to find), which is löydetty. Then you add the partitive ending -ä, becoming löydettyä. Finally, because the doer is 'you all' (2nd person plural), you add the possessive suffix -nne, giving us löydettyänne.
Since löydetty is a passive form, why does the sentence translate to active 'after you found'?
This is the quirky rule of the past temporal construction! Even though it is built using the passive participle stem (löydetty-), it represents an active action. The possessive suffix at the end (-nne) tells us who actually did the action, overriding the passive nature of the stem.
Why is the object amuletin in the genitive form instead of the partitive?
The temporal construction follows standard object rules. Finding the amulet is a completed action, and the amulet is a whole, countable object. Therefore, it takes the total object form, which looks like the genitive (-n).
Why does the word portaaliin end in the illative ('into') case?
This is because of the verb keskittyä (to focus or concentrate). In Finnish, you do not focus 'on' something, you focus 'into' it. Therefore, keskittyä always requires the illative case, which gives us portaaliin.
