Questions & Answers about Päätöstä ei tehtäne tänään.
How is tehtäne formed from the verb tehdä?
This is the negative passive potential. The affirmative passive potential of tehdä is tehtäneen (it will probably be made). For the negative form, you drop the final -en to get tehtäne and add the 3rd person negative verb ei.
Why is päätöstä in the partitive case instead of the nominative päätös?
In negative sentences, the object is always put in the partitive case. Even though affirmative passive sentences usually take a nominative object (like Päätös tehtäneen for 'The decision will probably be made'), the negative rule overrides this and forces päätös into the partitive päätöstä.
What is the difference between ei tehtäne and ei tehtäisi?
Learners often mix up these two moods. ei tehtäisi is the passive conditional (would not be made), while ei tehtäne is the passive potential (probably won't be made). The potential mood expresses probability or assumption rather than a hypothetical condition.
Why does the d in tehdä change to t in tehtäne?
