Questions & Answers about Pojan asenne muuttuu positiiviseksi tämän ilmiön takia.
Why does the word for positive have the ending -ksi in positiiviseksi?
The verb muuttua (to change or become) requires the adjective describing the new state to be in the translative case, which ends in -ksi. This case expresses what something turns into, so it literally translates to changing 'into a positive one'.
Why are the words tämä ilmiö (this phenomenon) written as tämän ilmiön?
They are in the genitive case (ending in -n) because of the postposition takia (because of). In Finnish, most postpositions require the word or phrase immediately preceding them to take the genitive case.
I remember the word for boy is poika. Why does it change to pojan here?
This is a refresher on consonant gradation. When you close the syllable by adding the genitive -n ending to say 'the boy's', the strong k in poika softens into a j, resulting in pojan.
How does the word asenne (attitude) behave if I need to use it in other grammatical cases?
