Why do we use oppaalta instead of oppaalle or opasta?
In Finnish, verbs of asking like kysyä require the person you are asking to be in the ablative case (-lta/-ltä). While English says you ask a person, Finnish literally asks information "from" them.
Why is the map (kartta) in the partitive case (karttaa)?
When using kysyä, the thing you are asking for acts as the object of the sentence and takes the partitive case. You are asking for a map, so kartta becomes karttaa.
Why is the verb kysykää and not just kysy?
Kysykää is the plural imperative (command) form. You use this when telling a group of people to do something. If you were telling just one person informally, you would use kysy! (or kysykää! if speaking formally to one person).
