### Verbs of Reaction and Focus

In Finnish, when you direct your attention, attitude, or focus toward something, the target often takes the **illative** case (the "into" case, usually ending in **-Vn**, **-hVn**, or **-seen**). 

A common example is the verb *suhtautua* (to react to, to relate to). When you talk about your attitude toward a new challenge or studying, the thing you are reacting to is in the illative.

### Diving Deep: Becoming Absorbed and Familiarized

When starting a demanding new study program or hobby, you often need to immerse yourself in the material. Several verbs describe delving into a topic, and they all require the illative case.

These include *uppoutua* (to become absorbed), *paneutua* (to apply oneself), *perehtyä* (to familiarize oneself), and *syventyä* (to delve into). Think of it as mentally diving *into* the subject.

### Passion, Focus, and Getting Hooked

This "into" logic also applies to certain nouns, such as *intohimo* (passion). To express what you have a passion for, you put the target in the illative (literally, a passion *into* something).

Similarly, when you get completely absorbed by a new interest or need to direct your attention, verbs like *hurahtaa* (to get hooked on) and *keskittyä* (to focus on) also demand the illative case.
