"Except That": Paitsi että

When you want to add an exception or a contradiction as a complete thought, use the conjunction paitsi että ("except that"). Because it connects two full clauses, the words following it stay in whatever case they would normally use in a standalone sentence.

The stocktaking is ready, except that this balance does not match.
Inventaario on valmis, paitsi että tämä saldo ei täsmää.
We checked the quantity by scanning the barcodes, except that one batch is missing.

"Except For": Paitsi + Partitive

To exclude a specific noun—meaning "except" or "except for"—use paitsi as a preposition. The noun and its modifiers must be in the partitive case.
