Both... and (sekä... että)

Use sekä... että (both... and) to link two words or phrases of the same grammatical type, such as two adjectives or two nouns.

This membership is both cheap and convenient.
Tämä jäsenyys on sekä halpa että kätevä.
The trial is both unlimited and free.
Kokeilu on sekä rajaton että ilmainen.

Linking Objects

When linking objects, both nouns take the grammatical case required by the verb. For example, sisältää (to include) often requires partitive objects:

This level includes both coffee and tea.
Tämä taso sisältää sekä kahvia että teetä.
The unlimited service includes both food and water.
Rajaton palvelu sisältää sekä ruokaa että vettä.

If the verb requires an accusative object, both nouns take the -n ending:

I want both the unlimited bundle and the benefit.
Haluan sekä rajattoman yhdistelmän että edun.

Linking Subjects

When joining two subjects, the compound subject is plural. The verb must be plural (e.g., ovat), and any describing adjectives take plural endings:

Both the fee and the membership are expensive.
Sekä maksu että jäsenyys ovat kalliita.
Both the trial and the bundle are ready.
Sekä kokeilu että yhdistelmä ovat valmiita.

Asking Questions

This structure works exactly the same in questions:

Is the new bundle both convenient and cheap?

Does the membership include both a car and a bicycle?
