Questions & Answers about کنترل منجنیق به عهدهی کماندار نیست.
The lesson mentions both be ohde-ye and bar ohde-ye. Could we use bar instead of be in this sentence?
Yes, absolutely. You can say bar ohde-ye kamāndār nist and it means exactly the same thing. The preposition bar (upon) sounds slightly more formal than be (to/at), but both are perfectly natural and interchangeable for expressing responsibility.
How does the Ezafe work in the phrase kontrol-e manjaniq?
Here, kontrol acts as a verbal noun. The Ezafe links this action to its target, manjaniq (catapult), translating to 'control of the catapult' or 'controlling the catapult.' Since the subject phrase ends there, we do not put an Ezafe on manjaniq.
Is ohde a regular noun, and why does it end with a -ye sound here?
Yes, ohde is a noun meaning charge, duty, or responsibility. Because it ends in a spoken vowel, the Ezafe linking it to kamāndār (the archer) becomes -ye instead of just -e. So be ohde-ye literally means 'in the charge of' or 'on the responsibility of.'
