Questions & Answers about مدیر شنید که کارمند از این سمت بازنشسته می‌شود.

Why is the verb at the end می‌شود in the present tense when the manager "heard" it in the past?
In English, we usually shift the tense back in reported speech ("heard that the employee was retiring"). Farsi does not do this! After the connector که (that), Farsi preserves the exact tense the original speaker used. The original situation is "the employee is retiring" (present tense), so we keep the present tense می‌شود here, even though the main verb شنید (heard) is in the past.
How does the verb بازنشسته می‌شود work?
This is a compound verb made of the adjective بازنشسته (retired) and the verb شدن (to become). Literally, it translates to "becomes retired." In Farsi, we often use شدن to express a change of state. Here it is conjugated in the present tense to match the employee's action.
Does the word سمت mean direction or position here?
Here it means a job position or post. When it has this meaning, it is pronounced semat. The exact same spelling can also mean direction or side, but then it is pronounced samt. The context of a manager and an employee tells us it means position in this sentence.
Why is there no word for "he" or "she" before the final verb?
Farsi is a pro-drop language, meaning subject pronouns like او (he/she) can be dropped if the meaning is clear. The subject here is the کارمند (employee). Because the verb می‌شود already has the 3rd-person singular ending, we do not need to add an extra pronoun to know who is retiring.
