Questions & Answers about من هفتمین مسافر هستم.
Why does هفتمین come before مسافر?
In Farsi, ordinal numbers that end in -omin (like هفتمین) are placed right before the noun they describe. This is a special exception, because most regular adjectives come after the noun.
Do I need to use an Ezafe (the connecting "e" sound) between هفتمین and مسافر?
No, you do not. When a Type 2 ordinal number comes before a noun, they are not connected by an Ezafe. You simply pronounce it haftomin mosaafer, never haftomin-e mosaafer.
How would this sentence change if I used the other type of ordinal number (هفتم)?
If you use the Type 1 ordinal هفتم (haftom), it acts like a normal adjective. It must go after the noun and it does require an Ezafe. The sentence would become من مسافر هفتم هستم (man mosaafer-e haftom hastam).
Just to be sure, why is هستم at the very end of the sentence?
Farsi places the main verb at the end of the sentence. Since من (I) is the subject and هفتمین مسافر (the seventh passenger) is what you are describing yourself as, the verb هستم (am) naturally wraps up the thought at the end.
