Questions & Answers about خیلی ممنون!
Why does kheili come before mamnoon?
In Farsi, the word kheili (very) comes right before the word it describes. Since mamnoon literally means "thankful" or "grateful", you are actually saying "very thankful" rather than putting "very much" at the end like we do in English.
Does this phrase need a verb to be correct?
Not in everyday conversation! You can add the "I am" verb ending to make it kheili mamnoon-am (I am very thankful), but dropping the verb and simply saying kheili mamnoon is extremely common and perfectly natural.
Is kheili mamnoon considered formal or informal?
It is a fantastic middle-ground phrase. It is polite and respectful enough to use with strangers, shopkeepers, or elders, but also relaxed enough to use with your close friends and family.
