Questions & Answers about آنها فردا صبح امتحان دارند.
Why doesn't دارند (dârand) have the می (mi-) prefix like other present tense verbs?
The verb داشتن (dâshtan, to have) is a major exception in Farsi. While most present tense verbs need the می (mi-) prefix to show they are happening right now, the verb "to have" doesn't use it. It simply takes the present stem دار (dâr) plus the personal ending, which here is ند (-and) for "they".
The English translation says "an exam," but there is no word for "a/an" here. Why?
In Farsi, you often don't need a separate word for "a" or "an" when stating a general fact or talking about a category. Just saying امتحان (emtehân) perfectly translates to "an exam" in this context. While you could add یک (yek, one) before it, leaving it out is very natural and common.
Do I need to use an ezafe (the "e" connecting sound) between فردا (fardâ) and صبح (sobh)?
No, you don't need an ezafe here. To say "tomorrow morning," you simply put the words side by side: فردا صبح (fardâ sobh). This is a set adverb phrase that works just like its English equivalent.
Where should time words usually go in a Farsi sentence?
Time words like فردا صبح (fardâ sobh) usually come very early in the sentence. The standard order is: Subject (آنها, they), then the Time (فردا صبح, tomorrow morning), then the Object (امتحان, exam), and finally the Verb (دارند, have) at the very end.
