Formal passives (moured-e ... qarâr gereftan)

The Formal Passive Structure

While everyday passives often rely on شدن (to become), official and legal contexts use a more formal structure: مورد linked with an ezafe to an abstract or verbal noun, followed by قرار گرفتن (to undergo / be placed).

[Subject] + موردِ + [Verbal Noun] + قرار گرفتن

This translates to "undergoing [an action]" or "being subjected to [an action]." The verb قرار گرفتن carries the conjugation for the sentence.

Bureaucratic Verbal Nouns

The word following موردِ is always an abstract or verbal noun. Bureaucratic processes—such as grading, sampling, or destroying goods—are perfect candidates for this structure.

Modals and Tenses

Because this is built around the standard verb گرفتن, it follows all regular conjugation rules. For example, adding باید (must) requires the subjunctive (قرار بگیرد).

It can also be conjugated into the simple past, or the perfect subjunctive (قرار گرفته باشد) to express that something "must have been" subjected to an action.

Compounding Actions

To express multiple actions simultaneously, link the verbal nouns together with و (and) directly after موردِ.
