The مفاعله Pattern
Farsi uses a highly predictable Arabic pattern for nouns denoting mutual action or engagement. By applying the mo-C1-â-C2-a-C3 template to a three-letter root—adding the prefix م, an ا after the first root letter, and an ه at the end—you get the مفاعله pattern.
When you hear this rhythm, the word usually describes two or more parties interacting or competing. For example, applying it to the root for discussing (ب - ح - ث) yields مباحثه (debate).
| They are supposed to start the debate today. | قرار است که آنها امروز مباحثه را شروع کنند.gharâr ast ke ânhâ emrooz mobâhese râ shoru' konand. |
Professional Communication
Because this pattern implies a back-and-forth exchange, it is the go-to structure for meetings, interviews, and broadcast events. Words like مشاوره (consultation) capture the process of two sides engaging with one another.
| Arrange a specialized consultation for me. | برایم یک مشاورهی تخصصی تنظیم کنید.barâyam yek moshâvere-ye takhassosi tanzim konid. |
Debates, Arguments, and Conversations
Mutual action takes many forms, from everyday chats to verbal fights. You will spot this exact noun pattern whether you are having an interesting conversation (مکالمه) or a professional debate breaks down into an argument (مشاجره).
| The conversation about it was very interesting. | مکالمه دربارهاش بسیار جالب بود.mokâlemeh darbâre-ash besyâr jâleb bud. |
| The host stopped this argument. | این مشاجره را مجری متوقف کرد.in mosâjere râ mojri motevaqqef kard. |
Conflicts, Exchanges, and Trials
You will frequently encounter this pattern in news and legal contexts. Whether politicians are resolving a dispute (مناقشه), professionals are handling an exchange of information (مبادله), or a judge is starting a trial (محاکمه), the underlying rhythm signals a mutual transaction.
| The politician resolved the dispute. | مناقشه را سیاستمدار حل کرد.monâqeshe râ siyâsatmadâr hal kard. |
| The exchange of information is important to me. | مبادلهی اطلاعات برایم مهم است.mobâdele-ye ettelâ'ât barâyam mohem ast. |
| The judge is supposed to start the trial tomorrow. | قرار است که قاضی محاکمه را فردا شروع کند.gharâr ast ke qâzi mohâkeme râ fardâ shoru' konad. |
