To express that an outcome will remain the same regardless of a specific condition, use حتی اگر (even if).
Forming Concessive Conditionals
When using حتی اگر, the condition is hypothetical, so the verb in the حتی اگر clause typically takes the Present Subjunctive (or sometimes the Simple Past). The main clause, stating the unchangeable outcome, remains in the indicative mood (usually standard present tense).
| Even if you erase the ink with a laser, the wound is seen. | حتی اگر جوهر را با لیزر پاک کنی، زخم دیده میشود.hattâ agar jôhar râ bâ lizer pâk koni, zakhm dide mishavad. |
Notice how the verb for "you erase" is in the subjunctive, while "is seen" is in the standard present tense.
Just like in English, حتی اگر can be placed at the beginning of the sentence or in the middle.
| Does the tattoo fade, even if I wash the skin? | آیا خالکوبی محو میشود، حتی اگر پوست را بشویم؟âyâ khâlkubi mahv mishavad, hattâ agar pust râ beshuyam? |
Emphasizing Inevitable Outcomes
You can use this structure to emphasize that an outcome won't change, no matter what remedies are tried.
| Even if you apply numbing ointment, a tattoo is still painful. | حتی اگر پماد بیحسی بمالید، خالکوبی هنوز دردناک است.hattâ agar pamâd-e bihessi bemâlid, khâlkubi hanuz dardnâk ast. |
You can also combine حتی اگر with other conjunctions, such as در حالی که (whereas/while), for more complex comparisons.
| The pain ends, whereas even if the ink fades, the design remains. | درد تمام میشود، در حالی که حتی اگر جوهر محو شود، طرح میماند.dard tamâm mishavad, dar hâli ke hattâ agar jouhar mahv shavad, tarh mimânad. |
