After clauses (ba'd az inke)

When planning your next steps after university, you will often need to describe the order of your milestones. In Farsi, to say "after [doing something]," you use بعد از اینکه or پس از اینکه.

In a previous lesson, you saw that "before" clauses take the subjunctive because the action has not yet happened. By contrast, an "after" clause describes an action that was already completed before the main event could take place. Because it is treated as a realized fact, Farsi uses the indicative mood—typically the Simple Past or the Past Perfect tense.

Here is بعد از اینکه followed by a Simple Past verb to describe life after getting a bachelor's degree:

Alternatively, you can use پس از اینکه. It means the exact same thing but has a slightly more formal or literary tone, often used in academic and professional contexts.

Using the Past Perfect

To strongly emphasize that the first action was entirely finished before the next chapter of life began, Farsi often uses the Past Perfect tense (had done something) in the "after" clause.

Moving Forward in Your Career

Whether you are using the Simple Past or Past Perfect, these temporal clauses are perfect for describing the path to becoming independent (مستقل) or building a business as an entrepreneur (کارآفرین).
