In this lesson, we will introduce the use of simple present tense verbs in Dutch. This tense is used to talk about habits, general truths, and repeated actions. Dutch present tense verbs are particularly interesting because of their conjugation patterns which differ depending on the subject pronoun (I, you, he/she/it, etc.).
Verb Conjugation: In Dutch, verbs need to be conjugated according to the subject pronoun. For example, the verb lopen (to walk) in the present tense:
- Ik loop (I walk)
- Jij loopt (You walk - singular informal)
- Hij/Zij/Het loopt (He/She/It walks)
- Wij lopen (We walk)
- Jullie lopen (You walk - plural)
- Zij lopen (They walk)
In this set of exercises, we'll be focusing on integrating these simple present tense verbs with the vocabulary and grammar we've already covered. This will include singular and plural subjects. We will also introduce a few new words to expand your vocabulary.
