Dutch 3 - Negative Sentences

In this lesson, we will introduce how to construct negative sentences in Dutch. When making a sentence negative, the word niet (not) is commonly used. Another negation word, geen, is used to negate nouns when they are preceded by an indefinite article or when there is no article at all in English. Understanding the usage of niet and geen is crucial for expressing negation in Dutch contexts correctly.

Niet:

  • Used with verbs, adjectives, or adverbs to negate them.
    • E.g., "Ik loop niet." (I do not walk.)

Geen:

  • Used with nouns to express 'not any' or 'no.'
    • E.g., "Ik heb geen appel." (I have no apple.)

Let's apply this new grammar along with the previously learned vocabulary and structures.
