Questions & Answers about In ieder geval is de software efficiënt.
Why is it "is de software" instead of "de software is"?
The phrase In ieder geval acts as an adverbial phrase at the start of the sentence, similar to the connectors like bovendien or daarnaast that you are learning. Putting this phrase first triggers the verb-second (V2) rule, meaning the verb is must come immediately before the subject de software.
What exactly does "in ieder geval" mean here?
In ieder geval is a very common fixed phrase meaning "in any case", "at least", or "anyway". You use it to say that regardless of other factors, this specific statement remains true.
Why doesn't "ieder" have an "-e" at the end here?
The word geval is a het word (het geval). Because ieder is placed before a singular het word, it drops the -e ending, just like adjectives do.
Can I use "in elk geval" instead of "in ieder geval"?
Yes! In elk geval means the exact same thing ("in any case") and the two phrases are completely interchangeable in Dutch.
