Conjunction of reason (aangezien)

When giving a reason or justification in a formal or professional context, Dutch uses aangezien ("since" or "as").

Subordinate clauses and inversion

Because aangezien is a subordinating conjunction, it pushes the verbs in its clause to the end.

When starting a sentence with an aangezien clause, the main clause immediately following the comma must start with its conjugated verb.

Since it is late, we will postpone the meeting.
Aangezien het laat is, zullen we de vergadering uitstellen.

If the aangezien clause comes second, the main clause keeps its regular word order.

We will approve the request in writing, since everything is correct.
We zullen het verzoek schriftelijk goedkeuren, aangezien alles klopt.

Formal business contexts

Business verbs like betreffen (to concern) and ondertekenen (to sign) pair naturally with aangezien to explain requirements or decisions.

Since the email concerns your project, you must sign it.
Aangezien de e-mail uw project betreft, moet u deze ondertekenen.
Since they approved the quote, we will sign the contract quickly.
Aangezien zij de offerte goedkeurden, zullen we het contract snel ondertekenen.
