Questions & Answers about To su važna pitanja.
Why does the adjective važna end in -a?
It is agreeing with the noun pitanja. The singular noun pitanje (question) is neuter. In the plural, neuter nouns end in -a, and their adjectives also take an -a ending in the nominative plural. That is why we say važna pitanja.
Doesn't the -a ending in pitanja usually mean a word is feminine singular?
It is a very common trap! While most feminine singular nouns end in -a (like žena), neuter nouns in the plural also end in -a. You can tell pitanja is plural here because of the plural verb su (are) and because its singular form is the neuter word pitanje.
If the English translation says 'Those', why does the Croatian sentence use To (that) instead of a plural word?
When you are simply pointing something out or introducing it, Croatian uses the fixed neuter singular word To (that) or Ovo (this). It does not change to match the plural noun. The verb su (are) is enough to show that you are talking about multiple things.
