Questions & Answers about Tražimo restoran.
Why does the verb end in -imo here?
This comes from the dictionary form tražiti (to look for). To make the "we" form for regular -iti verbs in the present tense, you drop the -iti to get the stem (traž-) and add -imo. This gives us tražimo (we are looking for).
Where is the word for "for" in this sentence?
The Croatian verb tražiti means "to look for" or "to seek." The concept of "for" is built right into the verb itself! You don't need a separate preposition like in English; you just put the thing you are looking for directly after the verb.
Restoran is the direct object. Why didn't its ending change?
You are right that direct objects take the accusative case, which usually changes the endings of words. However, restoran is a masculine noun for a non-living thing (inanimate). In Croatian, the accusative form for inanimate masculine nouns is exactly the same as their dictionary form.
Why isn't the word mi (we) used at the start of the sentence?
Because the verb ending (-imo) already clearly shows that "we" are doing the action, the pronoun mi can be dropped. You would only include it and say Mi tražimo restoran if you wanted to strongly emphasize that we (and not someone else) are looking for a restaurant.
