Social Media & Photos

Learn how to navigate social media, share posts, and manage your online interactions in Croatian.

Posts and Comments

The core of any social network is sharing content. A post is an objava, and a comment is a komentar. When you are writing, reading, or deleting these, they act as direct objects and take the accusative case. For a feminine noun like objava, the ending changes to -u (for example, objavu).

I would delete that post.
Izbrisao bih tu objavu.
Your comment on her post was very funny.
Tvoj komentar na njezinu objavu bio je vrlo duhovit.

Platforms and Followers

When you talk about being "on" a platform (platforma) or network, Croatian uses the preposition na followed by the locative case. For feminine nouns ending in -a, the locative ending is -i (e.g., na platformi). Your audience on these platforms consists of your followers (pratitelji).

Which is your favorite platform for photos?
Koja je tvoja omiljena platforma za fotografije?
He has a thousand new followers on that platform.
On ima tisuću novih pratitelja na toj platformi.

Profiles and Connections

You will also need to manage your profile (profil) and update your status (status). Unfortunately, social media isn't always perfectly friendly, and you may sometimes need to block (blokirati) another user.

Why did you change your status?
Zašto si promijenio status?
We have to block that profile.
Moramo blokirati taj profil.

Privacy and Settings

Protecting your digital footprint involves managing your privacy (privatnost) through your settings (postavke). Just like with physical platforms, talking about being "on the internet" uses na plus the locative case (na internetu).

Privacy is very important on the internet.
Privatnost je vrlo važna na internetu.
Where are the privacy settings?
Gdje su postavke privatnosti?

Looking at the Screen

Finally, all of this digital communication happens through your device's screen (zaslon).

He looked at the screen and read the comments.
Gledao je u zaslon i čitao komentare.
