Future II (budem)

To express a future action that must happen before another future action, Croatian uses the Future II tense (the exact future). It appears in dependent clauses starting with words like kada (when), ako (if), or čim (as soon as). The main clause uses the regular Future I tense.

Future II is built by combining the auxiliary verb budem with the main verb's l-participle (the same form used in the past tense).

will be (Future II auxiliary; budeš, bude, budemo, budete, budu)

Use Future II after kada (when) or čim (as soon as) to establish what needs to happen first:

When we have built the spacecraft, we will travel to Mars.
Kada budemo izgradili letjelicu, putovat ćemo na Mars.
As soon as you enter the virtual network, you will see the base.
Čim budeš ušao u virtualnu mrežu, vidjet ćeš bazu.
When they invent that chip, we will have new technology.
Kada budu izumili taj čip, imat ćemo novu tehnologiju.

Use it after ako (if) to describe future conditions:

If I have this technology, I will solve the problem.
Ako budem imao ovu tehnologiju, riješit ću problem.
If she invents the spacecraft, she will be rich.
Ako bude izumila letjelicu, bit će bogata.

The dependent clause (Future II) doesn't have to come first. When the main action (Future I) leads, do not use a comma between the clauses:

We will destroy the network when we find the laser.
Uništit ćemo mrežu kada budemo pronašli laser.
The virtual robot will work when you put in the chip.
Virtualni robot će raditi kada budeš stavio čip.
Will we see the galaxy if we turn on the laser?
Hoćemo li vidjeti galaksiju ako budemo upalili laser?
