Eleventh to Thirteenth
The ordinal numbers from eleven to twenty are formed similarly to the ones you have already learned. Because they function as adjectives, their default masculine nominative forms end in -i:
- jedanaesti (eleventh)
- dvanaesti (twelfth)
- trinaesti (thirteenth)
When a specific date (datum) is the subject of a sentence, the ordinal number stays in the nominative case.

However, to say that an event, such as a birthday or an anniversary (godišnjica), happens on a specific date, Croatian uses the genitive case instead of a preposition.
To form this, change the ordinal number's ending to -og. The month that follows will also take the genitive case.
- jedanaesti → jedanaestog (on the eleventh)
- dvanaesti → dvanaestog (on the twelfth)
| We are celebrating a birthday on the eleventh of January. | Slavimo rođendan jedanaestog siječnja. |
| Our family is celebrating the anniversary on the twelfth of February. | Naša obitelj slavi godišnjicu dvanaestog veljače. |
Fourteenth to Twentieth
The pattern is exactly the same for the remaining teens up to the twentieth (dvadeseti). When expressing when an event takes place, drop the -i and add -og:
- četrnaesti → četrnaestog (on the fourteenth)
- petnaesti → petnaestog (on the fifteenth)
- šesnaesti → šesnaestog (on the sixteenth)
- sedamnaesti → sedamnaestog (on the seventeenth)
- osamnaesti → osamnaestog (on the eighteenth)
- devetnaesti → devetnaestog (on the nineteenth)
- dvadeseti → dvadesetog (on the twentieth)
This genitive form is also perfectly suited for prepositions like do (by, until), which always trigger the genitive case.
| The trip starts on the fourteenth, and ends on the fifteenth of May. | Izlet počinje četrnaestog, a završava petnaestog svibnja. |
| We have to finish the project by the fifteenth or sixteenth of August. | Moramo završiti projekt do petnaestog ili šesnaestog kolovoza. |
| Their friends arrived in Croatia on the seventeenth, and left on the eighteenth of October. | Njihovi prijatelji su stigli u Hrvatsku sedamnaestog, a otišli osamnaestog listopada. |
| It is usually cold on the twentieth of January, and warm on the eleventh of March. | Dvadesetog siječnja je obično hladno, a jedanaestog ožujka toplo. |
