Consecutive clauses (tako da)

When camping, things rarely go exactly to plan. To link a cause to its natural result or consequence, use the conjunction tako da (so / with the result that).

Place tako da directly between the cause and the consequence.

We forgot the raincoat, so we are wet.
Zaboravili smo kabanicu, tako da smo mokri.

Verbs following tako da stay in the standard indicative mood. Just use regular present, past, or future tenses as needed.

All the matches are wet, so we cannot light a fire.
Sve šibice su mokre, tako da ne možemo upaliti vatru.
There are a lot of mosquitoes here, so my arm itches.
Ovdje ima puno komaraca, tako da me svrbi ruka.

You can stack multiple causes using i (and) before introducing the consequence.

My shoes are muddy and I have a blister, so I cannot walk.
Moje cipele su blatnjave i imam žulj, tako da ne mogu hodati.

This rule remains exactly the same regardless of what tense the cause or the result happens to be in.

I forgot the opener, so we cannot open the can.
Zaboravio sam otvarač, tako da ne možemo otvoriti konzervu.
Mosquitoes woke us up, so we are tired.
Komarci su nas probudili, tako da smo umorni.
