Connectors of manner and condition (na taj način, u tom slučaju, inače)

Saying how: ovako and na taj način

You have used ovako (like this, this way) since B1 to point at a manner right in front of you: Ovako se kuha prava kava. When the manner has already been described and you want to link the next sentence to it, written and careful Croatian uses na taj način (in that way, thus, by doing so): Svaki dan čitam na hrvatskom. Na taj način učim nove riječi.

Saying what follows: u tom slučaju and inače

u tom slučaju (in that case) picks up a condition you have just stated and gives its consequence: Možda će padati kiša. U tom slučaju ostat ćemo kod kuće. inače (otherwise) gives the consequence if the condition is not met — you met it inside the ako lesson at A2, and it works as a connector on its own: Požuri se, inače ćemo kasniti.

The demonstrative inside

Both new connectors are built on taj — the demonstrative for something already mentioned — in the case its preposition requires:

The same three-way system you know from ovaj / taj / onaj runs through the manner words: ovako (this way, here), tako (so, that way), onako (that way, over there). na taj način is the sentence-linking version of tako.
