Questions & Answers about بم تهتم هذه المنهجية الجديدة؟
Why is the first word written as بم and not بما?
The word بم is a combination of the preposition ب (in/with) and the question word ما (what). When an interrogative ما attaches to a preposition, its final Alif is dropped in writing. So, بما becomes بم. If you kept the Alif, making it بما, it would act as a relative pronoun meaning 'with that which' rather than the question 'with what?'.
Why does the sentence start with بم ('with what') when the English translation says 'interested in'?
In Arabic, verbs often pair with specific prepositions that do not match the English equivalent. The verb for 'to be interested' or 'to care' is اهتم (ahtamma), which strictly requires the preposition ب. Since Arabic places question words at the beginning of the sentence, the required preposition moves to the front along with the question word, creating بم تهتم.
The verb تهتم is from the root ه-م-م. Why does it look like this?
This is a Form VIII verb, which usually adds an extra ت after the first root letter. Because the root is geminate (the second and third letters are the same: ه-م-م), those two identical consonants merge into one with a shadda. So instead of having two separate 'mim' sounds, they compress, making the verb تهتم (tahtammu).
Why does the adjective الجديدة (new) have the definite article ال?
