Questions & Answers about هل أنتم جاهزون؟
Why does جاهزون end in ون?
This is the regular masculine plural ending. Because أنتم means "you" (plural, speaking to males or a mixed group), the word for "ready" must also match and be plural. If you were speaking to just one man, it would simply be هل أنت جاهز؟.
How would I answer this by saying "We are not ready" using ليس from our current lesson?
You would say لسنا جاهزين. The word ليس changes to لسنا to mean "we are not". Also, when a regular masculine plural word like جاهزون is used as the description after ليس, its ending changes from ون to ين, making it جاهزين.
Can I ask this question without using the word هل?
Yes! In everyday spoken Arabic, you can often just say أنتم جاهزون؟ with a rising tone of voice, just like saying "You are ready?" as a question in English. In formal Arabic, you could also use the question letter أ at the very beginning instead: أأنتم جاهزون؟.
How would the sentence change if I were asking a group made entirely of women?
You would need to use the feminine plural forms. The pronoun "you" becomes أنتن and the adjective for "ready" takes the regular feminine plural ending ات. The whole sentence becomes هل أنتن جاهزات؟.
