Questions & Answers about استلم المدير دعوات من المنظمين.
Why does المنظمين end in "-een" (ـين) instead of "-oon" (ـون)?
المنظمين is a regular masculine plural noun. In Arabic, these nouns end in ـون (-oon) when they are the main subject of a sentence, but they change their ending to ـين (-een) when they are the object or when they come directly after a preposition. Because this word comes right after the preposition من (from), it must take the ـين ending.
I see the feminine plural ending "-aat" (ـات) on دعوات. What is the singular form of this word?
The singular is دعوة (da'wa - an invitation). To make it plural, we drop the feminine marker taa marboota (ة) at the end of the word and replace it with the regular feminine plural ending ـات (-aat) to create دعوات (da'waat).
Since دعوات (invitations) is an inanimate object, why does it use a regular feminine plural ending? I thought that was just for groups of women.
The regular feminine plural ending ـات is indeed used for female people (like "teachers" or "engineers"), but it is also the standard plural for many inanimate objects and concepts as long as their singular form ends in a taa marboota (ة). Since the singular دعوة is grammatically feminine, it gets the ـات plural ending!
Why is المدير (the manager) placed after the verb استلم (received)?
Modern Standard Arabic typically uses a Verb-Subject-Object word order for its sentences. So instead of saying "The manager received..." like we do in English, Arabic sentences usually start with the action: "Received the manager..." (استلم المدير).
