Questions & Answers about نعم، أنا متعب أيضا.
Since our lesson is about yes/no questions, what question might this sentence be answering?
This is a natural response to a question like هل أنت متعب؟ (Are you tired?). Whenever a question starts with the question words هل or أ, it is a yes/no question, so you will usually start your reply with نعم (yes) or لا (no).
Where is the word for "am" in this sentence?
In Arabic, sentences in the present tense don't use a word for "am", "is", or "are". You just put the pronoun أنا (I) right next to the adjective متعب (tired). It literally translates to "I tired".
How would this sentence change if a woman were speaking?
The word أنا (I) stays the same for both men and women, but the adjective must match the speaker's gender. A woman would add the feminine ending ة (taa marbuta) to the adjective, saying نعم، أنا متعبة أيضا.
Why does the word أيضا end with those two little slanted lines?
Those two lines are a pronunciation mark that adds an "an" sound to the end of the word, which is why it is pronounced "aydan". You will often see this "an" ending on common adverbs at this level, such as أيضا (also/too) and شكرا (thank you).
