Capturing Memories
In Arabic, use the verb صور for "to photograph," and التقط for "capturing" a picture. Often, the goal is to preserve a beautiful memory (ذكرى).
When describing the technical quality of the captured image, use the word for resolution (دقة).
| He photographed nature in order to save the memories. | صور الطبيعة لكي يحفظ الذكريات.sawwara at-tabia likay yahfadha adh-dhikrayati |
| She said that she captured the picture with high resolution. | قالت إنها التقطت الصورة بدقة عالية.qâlat innahâ iltaqatati assûrata bidiqqatin aliyatin |
Composition and Focus
A well-composed photo balances its subject and its background (خلفية). Depending on your focus (تركيز), the elements behind your subject might be sharp, or deliberately blurry (ضبابي).
Adjectives follow the noun they describe and must match in gender. Since the word for "background" is feminine, the adjective "blurry" must also be feminine, becoming ضبابية.
| The background is blurry because the focus is on the face. | الخلفية ضبابية لأن التركيز على الوجه.al-khalfiyyatu dhabâbiyyatun li'anna at-tarkeeza 'alaa al-wajhi |
| The photographer changed the focus because the picture was blurry. | غيرت المصورة التركيز لأن الصورة كانت ضبابية.ghayyarati al-musawwiratu at-tarkîza li'anna as-sûrata kânat dabâbiyyatan |
Equipment and Lighting
Photographers rely on different types of lenses (عدسة) and good lighting (إضاءة) to get the perfect shot.
To talk about zooming in, use the word تقريب (zoom). To specify a "zoom lens," Arabic pairs "lens" and "zoom" together using the possession structure (إضافة): عدسة التقريب (literally "the lens of zooming").
| If you use the zoom lens, the picture becomes blurry. | إذا استخدمت عدسة التقريب، أصبحت الصورة ضبابية.idhâ istakhdamta adasata at-taqrîbi, asbahati as-sûratu dabâbiyyatan. |
