To say that an activity or person is "one of the most..." in Arabic, use the preposition من (literally "from" or "among") followed by a superlative adjective and a definite plural noun.
The Superlative Structure
In this structure, the adjective always takes the superlative pattern أفعل (such as أسرع for "fastest" or أعظم for "greatest").
This creates an Idafa (possessive) construction with the noun that follows it:
- Start with the preposition من.
- Add the superlative adjective (أفعل).
- End with a definite plural noun.
| Rowing in this current is one of the fastest sports. | التجديف في هذا التيار من أسرع الرياضات.at-tajdîfu fî hâdhâ at-tayyâri min asra'i ar-riyâdâti. |
| Diving from this cliff is one of the greatest adventures. | الغطس من هذا المنحدر من أعظم المغامرات.al-ghatsu min hâdhâ al-munhadari min a'zami al-mughâmarât |
| The free jump with a rubber rope is one of the most beautiful moments. | القفزة الحرة بحبل مطاطي من أجمل اللحظات.al-qafzatu al-hurratu biħablin mattatiyyin min ajmali al-lahazaat. |
Describing People
This pattern is invariable. The superlative adjective does not change to match the gender of the subject. It stays in the standard أفعل form even when describing feminine nouns.
| This daring player (f) is one of the fastest participants (f). | هذه اللاعبة الجريئة من أسرع المشاركات.hâdhihi l-lâ'ibatu l-jarî'atu min asra'i l-mushârikât |
| My friend (m) became one of the oldest trainers. | صار صديقي من أقدم المدربين.sâra sadîqî min aqdami al-mudarribîn. |
