Mental Well-being and Self-Care

Taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your body. In this lesson, we will learn sensitive, everyday terms to talk about mental well-being, coping strategies, and therapy.

Mental and Psychological Health

To describe things relating to the mind or psychology, use adjectives like نفسي (psychological) and عقلي (mental). Remember that these adjectives must agree with the noun they modify in gender and definiteness.

When discussing the steps you take for self-care, you can use the particle لكي (in order to) followed by a present tense verb to explain your purpose.

Describing Burnout and Background Actions

When stress becomes overwhelming, it can lead to إجهاد (strain), اكتئاب (depression), or احتراق (burnout).

To describe an action completed in the background, use the circumstantial و (واو الحال). By adding a subject pronoun right after it, you specify exactly who performed that background action. The structure is: و + pronoun (like هو or هي) + قد + past tense verb. This translates smoothly to "while he/she had..." or "having [done something]."

Specialists and Coping Strategies

Sometimes the best way to deal with a bad مزاج (mood) or the unhelpful كبت (repression) of feelings is to seek professional support. An أخصائي (specialist) can help you navigate سلبي (negative) thoughts and find a healthy balance.

Emotions and "Neither... Nor"

When navigating a complex شعور (feeling) or a strong عاطفة (emotion) brought on by توتر (stress), you might find yourself in an ambiguous state.

To express "neither... nor" in Arabic, simply repeat the negative particle لا before each noun or phrase.
