Propaganda and Misinformation
Navigating the modern media landscape requires a solid vocabulary, starting with propaganda (دعاية) and misinformation (تضليل), which are often controlled through censorship (رقابة).
| Political propaganda relies on misinformation. | تعتمد الدعاية السياسية على التضليل.ta'tamidu ad-di'âyatu as-siyâsiyyatu 'alâ at-tadlîl |
| The government uses censorship and propaganda. | تستخدم الحكومة الرقابة والدعاية.tastakhdimu al-hukûmatu ar-riqâbata wa-ad-diâyata. |
Misleading Agendas
Content can be intentionally misleading (مضلل) to push a specific agenda (أجندة).
| We must fight misinformation and misleading content. | يجب أن نكافح التضليل والمحتوى المضلل.yajibu an nukâfiha at-tadlîla wal-muhtawa al-mudallil |
| They publish fake news to support a hidden agenda. | ينشرون الأخبار المزيفة لدعم أجندة خفية.yanshurûna al-akhbâra al-muzayyafata lida'mi ajandatin khafiyyah |
Investigating Claims
To combat fake news, investigate (تقصى) every claim (ادعاء) and verify the reliability (موثوقية) of the source.
| The journalist investigated this strange claim. | تقصى الصحفي هذا الادعاء الغريب.taqassâ as-suhufiyyu hâdhâ al-iddiâ'a al-gharîba |
| We investigate the source to make sure of its reliability. | نتقصى المصدر لنتأكد من موثوقيته.nataqassâ al-masdara linata'akkada min mawthuqiyyatihi. |
Manipulation and Critical Thinking
Because people may manipulate (تلاعب ب) data or images, critical (نقدي) thinking is essential.
| They might manipulate the pictures, so critical analysis is important. | قد يتلاعبون بالصور، لذلك التحليل النقدي مهم.qad yatalâ'abûna bis-suwari, lidhâlika at-tahlîlu an-naqdiyyu muhimmun |
| Critical thinking helps in analyzing the news. | يساعد التفكير النقدي في تحليل الأخبار.yusâ'idu at-tafkîru an-naqdiyyu fî tahlîli al-akhbâr. |
Possibility and Combined Prepositions
The particle قد before a present tense verb expresses possibility ("might" or "may").
| We might talk about what we read in the newspaper. | قد نتحدث عما قرأناه في الصحيفة.qad natahaddathu 'ammâ qara'nâhu fis-sahîfah |
In Arabic, prepositions often merge with the relative pronouns ما (what) and من (who/whoever). For example:
- عن (about) + ما = عما (about what)
- بـ (with/in) + ما = بما (with/in what)
- من (from/of) + من = ممن (from/of who)
| Fatima, she is interested in what you are writing about censorship. | يا فاطمة، هي مهتمة بما تكتبينه عن الرقابة.yâ fâtimatu, hiya muhtammatun bimâ taktubînahu 'ani ar-riqâbati. |
| Did you make sure of who published this propaganda? | هل تأكدت ممن نشر هذه الدعاية؟hal ta'akkadta mimman nashara hadhihi ad-diâyata? |
