Use من شأن ... أن to discuss actions or events that naturally lead to specific results.
| nature / matter (affair, concern) | شأنsha'n |
To express that something is "expected to" or "has the potential to" happen, use من شأن (literally "from the nature of"), followed by the noun causing the outcome, and then أن with a present tense verb.
| This new innovation is expected to improve diagnosis. | من شأن هذا الابتكار الجديد أن يحسن التشخيص.min sha'ni hâdhâ al-ibtikâri al-jadîdi an yuhassina at-tashkhîsa. |
The verb following أن must agree in gender with the noun after من شأن. If the cause is feminine, like توعية (awareness) or حملة (campaign), the verb takes the feminine prefix (تـ):
| Awareness is expected to reduce chronic diseases. | من شأن التوعية أن تقلل من الأمراض المزمنة.min sha'ni at-taw'iyati an tuqallila mina al-amrâdi al-muzminati. |
| The awareness campaign is expected to increase immunity. | من شأن حملة التوعية أن تزيد المناعة.min sha'ni hamlati t-taw'iyati an tazîda l-manâ'ata |
If the cause is masculine, like دواء (medicine) or مضاد حيوي (antibiotic), the verb takes the masculine prefix (يـ):
| The medicine is expected to achieve recovery from the deadly disease. | من شأن الدواء أن يحقق الشفاء من المرض الفتاك.min sha'ni ad-dawâ'i an yuhaqqiqa ash-shifâ'a mina al-maradi al-fattâk |
| The antibiotic is expected to support the patient's immunity. | من شأن المضاد الحيوي أن يدعم مناعة المريضة.min sha'ni al-mudâddi al-hayawiyyi an yad'ama manâ'ata al-marîdati. |
